Virtually all adults in the United States agree that a healthy smile is important to their social standing. This is why so many people are embarrassed by their teeth if they’re yellow or require dental procedures such as fillings or crowns. However, dental implants are nothing new. Millions of people already have them because as much as we might like to deny it, we’re not very thorough when it comes to oral hygiene.
As of 2012, there were almost 147,000 dentists in the United States. Yet almost 100 million Americans don’t go to their yearly dentist appointment. This leads to numerous problems due to a lack of dental cleaning and regular checkups, including adult cavities or periodontal disease. This is a serious infection of the gums that can be completely preventable through good oral hygiene. More than 47% of Americans that are at least 30 years old have some form of this disease. So it’s no wonder that we might end up having to have dental crowns or other implants as we get older.
And even when we’re younger, the avoidance of dental hygiene is all around us. Most children won’t thoroughly clean their teeth by themselves until they are 10 or 11 years old. In addition, most of them hate going or are afraid to go to the dentist which only makes it more difficult. And if you had braces as a teenager or even as a young adult, it’s easy to see why you might be hesitant about going through with a dental crown procedure. However, this really is nothing like that.
Implants are nothing to be afraid of, as millions of people have them already. It is estimated that every year half a million people get some form of dental implants or have a similar procedure. They also have a reported 98% success rate, which means that it’s completely safe for you to get one. Dentists have also had a lot of practice with these procedures before, so there’s no need for you to be concerned.
Dental implants like crowns are a way for you to still have that nice smile you’ve always craved. So maybe your teeth still aren’t perfect after years of hard work, but you can still smile and laugh just like everyone else and no one will be able to tell the difference.
